De bOca Cheia — Julia Salem
De Boca Cheia is a performance that contemplates two object-pieces, with similar structures, whose scenic device borrows the visual arts concept of diptych: a fold that contains two related images. The first object-piece focuses on a standardized gesture of speech, namely political and, to a certain extent, masculine. The egg in the mouth contains an implicit criticism of some modes of communication, namely “hollow”, empty messages, said not to be understood; when speaking with your mouth full; by saying and not saying anything; the non-possibility of speech or a blockage of it. The second object-piece deals with the normalization of certain female gestures and images built by the media. From the failure of a communication and the research of gestures and standardized images, this performance-fold-diptych makes a crossing through the body and the sound (proto and pseudo speeches and words), transmuting to other gestural-imagetic and dis-discursive possibilities.
