Homo Sacer is an expression with genesis in the roman law used to designate someone who never had or no longer has an identity and therefore their fate is up to the Gods: like Oedipus whom after blinding himself, roams at the mercy; a roman soldier in battle, longing for victory, runs at the enemy with little chance of returning; the Calon whom during the transition to the industrial society were listed and stalked for being averse to working. Forgetful faces which melt. They are amongst us. Spectral bodies, potency of someone who exists, but is invisible.

Bestiário was born in 2018 by Afonso Viriato, Helena Caldeira, Miguel Ponte and Teresa V. Vaz. Its work and course is based in the exploration of the performative arts, namely the Theatre and draws inspiration from various areas of the human knowledge, such as the exact sciences and the social sciences. Bestiário operates under a rotational model when it comes to the direction of each project. This democratisation of opportunities opens space for new ways of collaboration and artistic growth.
Bestiário has worked with renowned institutions such as Teatro da Garagem, Escola de Mulheres, Teatro do Bolhão, Fábrica das Artes (CCB), F. Culturgest, O Espaço do Tempo, Cine-teatro Curvo Semedo, Centro Cultural de Belém, Teatro Viriato and Teatro das Figuras in a total of eight creations already supported by various entities: F. Calouste Gulbenkian, DGArtes, Fundo de Fomento Cultural, Fundação GDA and Bolsa de Criação d’O Espaço do Tempo / Fundação La Caixa in the post emergent category.
The shows include presentations in districts of Lisbon, Alentejo, Porto and Viseu. Internationally, Bestiário was welcomed at Palácio da Cultura Ildo Lobo in Santiago Island, Cape Verde for a week-long workshop and a conference. Atmavictu, Umbra, Homem-agem and Lumina got favourable critics in digital platforms and relevant cultural press.
Bestiário intends to continue exploring an artistic and aesthetic language through the creation of new pieces and professional relationships, whilst caring for the ones that already exist.
