Choro

Gustavo Monteiro is a dancer and choreographer with an improvisational research on movement that has a strong relationship with music – be it the music itself or the musicality of the movement itself.
In this solo, his dance interacts with the baroque aria Lascia ch ‘io pianga by Handel, which is part of the opera Rinaldo. The libretto is by Aaron Hill and is based on Torquato Tasso’s poem Gerusalemme Liberata. The poem narrates a fictional version of the First Crusade, where Christian knights, led by Godefroy de Bouillon, fight Muslims in order to lift the Siege of Jerusalem.

Choro is a commission funded by the Kale Dance Company’s “unfinished#battleground” grant.
